200+ Jewellery Category

Hi Everyone,

Very soon the jewellery category on www.shophandmade.co.uk will have over 200 listings, much more than the majority of categories so I am considering spliting the category into 3 sections. I'm not a fan of creating additional clicks to get to the listings but I feel this would help both buyers and sellers. The 3 sections I'm considering are:
  1. Hand Forged / Metalsmithing
  2. Beaded / Gemstone (Semi-precious / precious gems and metals)
  3. Costume (Non precious metals, plated metals, plastic, lucite)
This would also mean the 5 product pictures featured would represent the style of jewellery seller listed in each section. I would love to get your comments on these plans or any suggestions you have.

Thanks
Belinda

  1. Hi, I've no objection to this - category 2 fits my designs well. You might have to elaborate on what you mean by Costume. Would that be anything that is plated/brass/copper etc?

  2. Hi CeeGee Jewellery,

Thanks for your comments. By costume I mean anything that is not precious or semi-precisous so silver plated, lucite beads, plastic. If someone uses lucite beads with sterling silver that would go in with section 2 beaded / gemstone as the silver is precious. I will edit the post to give more details.

    Thanks

  3. Hi Belinda - would love it if you would give glass a category of its own - separate from ceramics. Jo

  4. I'd fit into two of these categories - would it be okay to list in both or would I need to choose!? Good idea to split it though as otherwise it'll bcome increasingly easy for people (sellers and buyers) to get 'lost'!

  5. category 1 sounds sensible. however, would i be in 2 or 3 - both really. umm not totally sure.

  6. Thanks for the comments, in reply:

Glassprimitif - Thanks Jo, will look into it. I usually like to have a min of 10 per category so once this is a little bigger I will split.

Silver Moss Jewellery - Looking at your pieces I would initially say Section 1 but as you do have some gems then you could go in both. What I wouldn't want is so many that duplicate listing mean I'm back to where we started.

AmyE - Looking at your pieces I think you should go in both as you have a fairly even split. It's difficult as without looking at your descriptions I'd have said Section 2 but you do fit in both.

Mmm, this is raising some questions for me which is great. Keep your comments coming. The split will not likely take place until Feb so I have time to consider aditional sections if required.

    Thanks
    Belinda

  7. Perhaps the answer would be to go in only one section but that section being what you produce most of your work in, if that makes sense?

So, as most of my work at present would belong in section 1, then I'd go in that section, but still be allowed to include some items that would in theory belong in section 2, as long as they were less than those itmes that were purely as specified for section 1!

Hope I'm still making sense and sorry if I've just made things sound more complicated than they are!

  8. Hi Silver Moss Jewellery,

That makes perfect sense but being in 2 of the sections would not be a problem.

    Thanks

  9. A sensible idea, I think, since otherwise the list is a bit overwhelming :-)

  10. Thanks for everyones comments. I think that's a decision made. I have work to do then, it will take some time as I will need to go through each shop so I would hope to have the changes done in the next few weeks but will post back here when complete.

    Thanks

  11. A great Idea - As a silversmith I find it frustrating for my fine silver, sterling & gold items to be in the same category as plated ones & they just get lost amonsgst the beady sections..
    Superb suggestion!

  12. Sounds good to me, I don't know how many of us will be in the Costume section though, but I'm sure it won't be just little ole me :)
